My Background

I currently serve as Europe/Mideast bureau chief for Stars and Stripes, an independent newspaper by and for the U.S. military. I lead a team of more than 20 reporters covering defense, U.S. forces overseas, and the region.

Before moving to Europe, I spent more than a decade reporting across East Asia, including seven years based in Seoul. I covered everything from diplomacy and shifting alliances to protests, elections, and government decisions that shape people’s daily lives.

At the U.S. taxpayer-funded Voice of America (VOA), I worked as Seoul bureau chief and regional correspondent. Earlier, I covered foreign policy from Washington, reporting from the White House, State Department, and Pentagon.

My work has taken me to more than 20 countries. I’ve interviewed senior officials, reported from conflict zones, and led coverage across the region, with a focus on explaining what’s happening and why it matters to people on the ground.

My reporting spans TV packages, live field standups, longform web writing, breaking news, human interest features, and investigations. I’ve also edited stories and helped coordinate coverage across languages, time zones, and platforms.

Earlier in my career, I led strategic communications for a Cairo-based human rights group during a time of political upheaval.

Over the years, I’ve built deep regional expertise and a wide network of contacts — including diplomats, policymakers, activists, and academics — which helps me report with context and clarity.
