My Background

For more than a decade, I’ve reported on major stories across East Asia — from high-stakes diplomacy and shifting alliances to protests, elections, and government policies that shape people’s everyday lives.

Since 2019, I’ve worked as the Seoul Bureau Chief and regional correspondent for the U.S. taxpayer-funded Voice of America (VOA). Before that, I covered the region from Washington, reporting from the White House, State Department, and Pentagon.

My work has taken me to more than 20 countries. I’ve interviewed senior officials, reported from conflict zones, and led regional coverage teams, always with a focus on making sense of global events and how they affect people on the ground.

My reporting spans a wide range of formats and topics, including: TV packages, live field stand-ups, long-form web writing, breaking news, human interest features, and investigations. I’ve also edited stories and helped coordinate coverage across languages, time zones, and platforms.

Earlier in my career, I led strategic communications for a Cairo-based human rights group during a time of political upheaval.

Over the years, I’ve developed deep regional expertise and built a wide network of contacts across Korea and the wider region — including diplomats, policymakers, activists, and academics. That local knowledge helps me tell stories with clarity and depth.
